Ryan Simpson (left) and Liam Trotman, are chefs & co-owners of Orwells Restaurant. Their combined experience include Winteringham Fields, Maison Troisgros, Bovey Castle, 60 Hope Street, Pierre Gagnaire, Guy Savoy, The Elephant and The Goose; where the latter was awarded a Michelin star and The Good Food Guide ‘Up and Coming Chef of the Year’.
At Orwells, the chefs’ ethos is to serve nothing but the highest quality food with a focus on sustainability. Ingredients are sourced locally wherever possible and they even have their own small holding where 75% of their fruit and vegetables are grown. Liam has been an avid and very successful beekeeper since 2013, producing the honey used in the restaurant and selling it to support Friends of the Earth’s ‘Bee Cause’. This approach has earned them a three-star gold sustainability rating from the Sustainable Restaurant Association, ‘demonstrating an exceptional standard of sustainability’.
The pair took over the 18th century former pub in 2010 and have since won Restaurant of the Year and been included in the UK Top 50 Restaurants in the Waitrose Good Food Guide 2017. They are also one of just 39 UK restaurants to be hold 4 AA Rosettes in the AA Restaurant Guide 2017. Orwells was recently included in Tatler magazine’s Best of Britain restaurant selection. Ryan has also made his television debut on BBC1’s The Big Chef Showdown hosted by Pierre Koffmann
