Ryan (left) and Liam Simpson-Trotman, are chefs & co-owners of Orwells Restaurant. Their combined experience include Winteringham Fields, Maison Troisgros, Bovey Castle, 60 Hope Street, Pierre Gagnaire, Guy Savoy, The Elephant and The Goose; where the latter was awarded a Michelin star and The Good Food Guide ‘Up and Coming Chef of the Year’.
At Orwells, the chefs’ ethos is to serve nothing but the highest quality food with a focus on sustainability. Ingredients are sourced locally wherever possible and they even have their own small holding where 75% of their fruit and vegetables are grown. Liam has been an avid and very successful beekeeper since 2013, producing the honey used in the restaurant.
The pair took over the 18th century former pub in 2010 and have since won Restaurant of the Year 2017 and been included in the UK Top 50 Restaurants 2020 in the Waitrose Good Food Guide . They are also one of just 47 UK restaurants to be hold 4 AA Rosettes in the AA Restaurant Guide 2020. Orwells was recently included in Tatler magazine’s Best of Britain restaurant selection.
Ryan made his television debut on BBC1’s The Big Chef Showdown hosted by Pierre Koffmann and Ryan and Liam are now regulars on BBC1’s Saturday Kitchen. They have also both competed for their respective regions in BBC2’s Great British Menu and are often on stage at festivals and foodie events including CarFest North, Eat & Drink Festival and Thame and Henley Food Festivals.
